Dealing with hunger on your fast days
With the recent success of Michael Mosley's The Fast Diet many more people are now fasting.
Initially when starting fasting it is normal to deal with some hunger. This will pass after you have completed a few fast days, but in the meantime here are some quick tips to cope with those hunger pangs:

- Keep hydrated - lots of water, black coffee/tea
- Stay active - walk, workout, play a game
- Don't panic - the hunger will pass quickly
As you can see there's no reason to freak out about a little hunger. Your body is just learning how to switch to burning fat again. Once you have a few fast days under your belt your body will have switched to a fat burning machine, the way it evolved to.

Michael Mosley Diet
Michael Mosley's new diet is called The Fast Plan, although it was formally known as the 5:2 diet.
It consists of eating 500-600 calories a day for 2 days of the week and eating normally the other 5 (hence the 5:2 diet name). This results in around 1lb of fat loss per week.
This is a form of intermittent fasting which is gaining popularity due to the health benefits which come with it. It turns out that taking a break from eating kick starts some healthy processes in the human body. It's only very recently in evolutionary terms that we have been eating constantly, hence why the human body deals better with no food now and again.

The Fast Diet Plan
The Fast Diet is a brand new diet plan which uses fast & feast days to help you lose weight.
The authors Michael Mosley (BBC Horizon) & Mimi Spencer recommend to lose weight you eat normal 5 days of the week, but the other 2 you limit yourself to 500 calories (for women) or 600 calories (for men).
This might seem tough if you have never went for any period of time without food but it's actually easier than you think.
Something I really liked about The Fast Diet Plan was just how flexible it is - you can split those 500/600 calories up however you like. For example you can have them all for dinner, or split them up into a breakfast or lunch. Choice is yours!
The key to succeeding with this plan is to keep hydrated - lots of water and black coffee/tea. That really helps keep hunger at bay.
Speaking of hunger - this is something which The Diet Plan really helps you understand. Even on your"feast" days you will probably eat less as you will begin to realise what the real feeling of hunger actually is and not just your brain telling you to eat.
Even once you reach your target weight you can continue with the same plan but fasting once a week. This will let you maintain your target weight, whilst also reaping the health benefits that fasting brings.
Any downsides to The Fast Diet Plan?
The first 2 or 3 days of fasting are the toughest. But it really does become easy once you get past the initial discomfort. But that discomfort is just your body having to learn what should really be natural to it - burning up it's fat stores when there's no food available.
